I just needed to say that 2007-07-28 was very awesome.

This was my first residency show (I saw them at Santa Cruz and was
thoroughly impressed[1]).

Some various thoughts on the show:

Strangely, I was front and center the whole time and didn't get crushed
like I have been in the past. Thanks to the people behind me for being
cool and not crushing us. I personally prefer mellow crowds and
starting the setlist with a bunch of new acoustic songs is awesome.

Billy's voice is better live than it was in 2000. I'm glad I'm not
hearing those Once In A Lifetime screams.

The highlight of my evening was the new version of Shame, followed
immediately by Hummer. Zeitgeist with Jimmy on guitar was another
moment that really stood out for me, Jimmy threw his pick after the song
just a few feet right of me.

Starla was another song I thoroughly enjoyed. Was it me or was it
shorter than usual? Maybe I was just enjoying it more. I'll have
to check th recordings later.

spfc.org is down right now, so I can't check the setlist. Agnew and
Davin were both at this show, so there's probably nobody riding the
treadmill to keep it up.

I don't know the names of the new residency songs, but some were
really great. I forgot to photograph the setlist, too.

By Starlight was played with Linda Strawberry on stage, with Linda
singing on To Sheila immediately afterwards.

Cherub Rock was not played. It's probably my favorite "hit" by
the Pumpkins, but I've already heard it live enough times before.
Drown was not played, either, nor Rocket.

Muzzle, one of my favorite songs, was the finale. I still like the
acoustic version they played in 2000 more, but it was great to hear it
full band for the first time.

Jeff had trouble with his amp. Not being James, he couldn't tell a
story to keep us occupied. Jimmy doesn't do stories (nor impromptu drum
solos), either. Ginger hid in the dark while it was all going on.
Billy jokingly kept telling Jeff to smash the guitar, Jeff throws it
down a few songs later.

Lisa looked surprised and shocked when walking off stage after Jeff shot
his guitar off. It wasn't so much of a guitar slam, Jeff just threw it
down and it slid off stage; strange physics there...

Silverfuck was teased and turned into another song. Gossamer was cut
entirely. Monte wants to be to blame/praise for Gossamer being cut, but
there was a lot of time lost to Jeff's technical issues.

I wanted to hear Quiet instead of That's The Way, but TTW is a good song
nevertheless.

Mayonaise, Soma, and I Am One still haven't been played live. Can they
not do those songs without James's (for whatever legal or hysterical
raisins)? I don't really care to hear I Am One live anymore, but I do
miss Mayonaise and Soma...

I didn't get to hear Rocket (definitely my favorite song of all time,
especially the mellow acoustic version) but I got to hear that in Santa
Cruz already (BC messed up the lyrics a bit that night, though).

I still have two more shows (7/30, 7/31) so maybe I'll get to hear
the following songs:
Nothing and Everything, Thru The Eyes of Ruby, Geek USA, or Moleasskiss

[1] - of course, what I did *after* the SC show was far more impressive
in my own little world :)

I'll take some personal credit for this one. There was only a couple
moments where the crowd started to push forward (BWBW and 1 other
time), but i had no problem holding them back. ;-)

yea, his voice has been spectacular since the comeback started.
especially with all the comments about the album vocals, i'm glad this
is the case.

that pick landed right at my feet and i tried to cover it with my
foot, but someone else was already down on the ground digging for it
before I even realized where the hell it went. oh well.

I heard the 28th show was much better than the 30th, but hopefully
they'll step it up another notch for you, for tonight's show.

btw it was great meeting you in person, and because you just said "i'm
eric" i didn't make the connection until now. :-)

p.s. what exactly happened after the SC show?

Oops, late reply :x.

I started using some home-made NNTP scripts and apparently it has bugs
in it made it skip some new posts.

Thanks :)

I had one guy trying to push his way through me on the 30th during
Cherub Rock but managed to stop him.

Yeah, I didn't enjoy the 30th so much; but the 31st was even better than
the 28th IMHO.

I'm not sure how they can play for ~3 hours every night and keep that
kind of energy up, but they did.

They went through a very long Gossamer before the first encore; so I
didn't even think they were going to play one; but they played
Silverfuck afterwards, too. Of course they played my favorite version
of my favorite song Rocket, too.

Ah. I guess it's a common name, unlike yours :)

A ~2 hour long adrenaline rush, and that's all I have to say for now :)
